My mother, who has ovarian cancer, is in extreme pain. The doctor just prescribed a new painkiller that's an opioid narcotic, but we're afraid to have her take it. Couldn't she become addicted?

I have also tried consulting as many people as possible and also tried for expert advices in places like caring.com. I am here for some open ended discussions so I can get more suggestions.

Please help.
